Tre Johnson, the top-ranked shooting guard in the class of 2024, will officially visit Texas beginning this Sunday, August 27th through Tuesday, August 29th, a source told On3.

This will be Johnson’s second time officially visiting Austin; the first being when Chris Beard was still head coach. Now the No. 1 ranked player in the state of Texas will trip to Austin to see Rodney Terry and the Longhorns.

Johnson, a Five-Star Plus+ recruit, is considering six schools — Arkansas, Kentucky, Kansas, Baylor, Alabama, and of course, Texas.

The native of Dallas has also officially visited Baylor, Texas, Kansas, Kentucky, and is scheduled to visit Alabama (Sept. 15) next month. Johnson recently announced he will be transferring to Link Academy in Branson, Mo. for his senior season.

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Johnson is the No. 4 overall prospect in the 2024 cycle. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Tre Johnson Scouting Report

“Tre Johnson has a good frame with plenty of room to continue adding muscle. He has natural length and above-average pop and quickness. His calling card is his shooting. Johnson is a knockdown shooter with deep range, able to make shots off the catch or the bounce. He has great balance with a repeatable release at all levels. His footwork is very impressive. He is able to attack his spots in the half-court, whether setting up in the mid-post or on the perimeter. Johnson can get where he wants off two or three dibbles with a less-is-more offensive approach. Johnson has a smooth game; he does not get rushed, and he is filled with confidence when the ball is in his hands. He has the dimensions to be a solid defender, with the length and IQ, understanding of positioning. His dad signed with Baylor out of high school and was a 1,000 point scorer throughout college.”

“Tre Johnson is as natural a scorer as there is in the class. Standing at a lengthy 6-5, he’s able to get the shot off over defenders. What really stands out is his ability to create space. His balance is great and can’t talk enough about the footwork. He still needs to continue working on the strength and distinguishing between a shot you can get and a good shot. Johnson has a smooth jump shot, with a repeatable form and release, no matter the level. He averaged 24.0 points on 40.7% 3P in Phoenix.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
