Following his ouster as Texas‘ men’s basketball coach, Chris Beard has listed his mansion in Austin, Texas, for sale. The initial asking price on Zillow is $4.95 million.

Beard was fired as Texas’ coach on Jan. 5, following his arrest for a third-degree felony domestic violence incident on Dec. 12.

“The University of Texas has parted ways with Chris Beard. This has been a difficult situation that we’ve been diligently working through. Today I informed Mr. Beard of our decision to terminate him effective immediately,” said Texas athletics director Chris Del Conte, in a statement released to the press. “We thank Coach Rodney Terry for his exemplary leadership both on and off the court at a time when our team needed it most. We are grateful he will remain the acting head coach for the remainder of the season.

Chris Beard’s mansion in Austin will fetch a high price.

A brief listing on Zillow describes the property as a “sophisticated contemporary in ultra-convenient Tarrytown, one of Austin’s most desirable neighborhoods.”

According to the Zillow listing for the property, the mansion came off the market officially on Dec. 1, 2021 with a last listed price of $4.99 million. Beard was named Texas’ basketball coach on April 1, 2021.

Beard coached his way into the Texas job after doing a phenomenal job at Texas Tech from 2016-2021. He led the Red Raiders to a place in the national championship game during the 2018-19 season, guiding Texas Tech to a tie for first place in the Big 12 standings with a 14-4 conference mark and a 31-7 record overall.

In five seasons with the Red Raiders, Beard compiled a 112-55 record and a 49-40 mark in league play.

He took the Texas job after Shaka Smart vacated the post following the 2020-21 season.

Though Beard was dismissed as Texas’ basketball coach in early January, Beard’s lawyer has maintained his innocence. However, after being released on bail, Texas had previously suspended him without pay.

Beard was in the second year of his contract, after making a move from in-state rival Texas Tech following the 2020-21 season. In his only full season as Longhorns head coach, he reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Texas assistant Rodney Terry will continue to serve as interim head coach, a position he assumed ahead of the Longhorns’ game against Rice. Texas is currently ranked No. 10 in the country with an 17-3 record overall and 6-2 in Big 12 play following an 89-75 win over Oklahoma State on Tuesday.

Texas will be back in action on Saturday at No. 4 Tennessee as part of the annual SEC/Big 12 Challenge. That game will tip off at 6 p.m. ET with a national broadcast on ESPN.

The game will also have plenty of eyeballs on it. ESPN’s College GameDay will be in town to cover the ranked-on-ranked matchup between top-10 opponents.

This year will also mark the end of the current SEC/Big 12 Challenge format ahead of conference realignment involving Oklahoma and Texas.
