CBS announces former Texas head coach Tom Herman is joining network as game analyst
Two years removed from being the Texas head coach, Tom Herman will be moving out of the coaching world for now. CBS announced Herman will be joining the broadcasting industry, serving as a game analyst on CBS Sports Network.
He will be one of four additions, although his partnership and potential early season schedule have not been released.
While the Power Five conference teams rarely play on CBS Sports Network, Herman will have the right to broadcast some of the top Group of Five games. The Mountain West and Conference USA are routinely shown on the network.

Before joining the broadcast booth, Herman enjoyed his first stint in the NFL last year. He worked as an offensive analyst for the Chicago Bears. However, Matt Nagy was not retained by the organization, meaning a whole new coaching staff was brought into the Windy City.
Herman is more well known for his time in Austin, spending four seasons with the Longhorns. The peak came in 2018 when Texas appeared in the Big 12 championship game and won 10 games for the first time since 2009. Although they fell short, a Sugar bowl win against Georgia was thought to be a huge stepping stone for the program.

The magic was never recreated and by the end of the 2020 season, Texas decided to move on from Tom Herman.
Elsewhere as a head coach, Herman built up the Houston program and secured a couple of signature wins along the way. In Year One, the Cougars finished with a 13-1 record, winning the AAC Championship. A Peach Bowl win over Florida State is still the school’s only modern BCS/New Year’s Six bowl win.
To begin the 2016 season, Herman and Houston upset Oklahoma. Although the season did not live up to expectations thereafter, it was enough to make him one of the hottest coaching candidates on the market, with Texas and LSU fighting for his signature.
