Vanderbilt transfer guard Malik Presley commits to Texas
After entering the NCAA transfer portal, former Vanderbilt guard Malik Presley has committed to Texas, On3 had learned.
Presley entered the transfer portal on April 17 following just one season with the Commodores, departing with the Vanderbilt program after the firing of head coach Jerry Stackhouse following his fifth season at the helm with the program. Finishing the season with just nine wins for the second time in his tenure.
But now Presely returns to his home state, choosing head coach Rodney Terry and Longhorns after reopening up his recruitment this offseason.
“I think Texas is a great program,” Presely told On3’s Joe Tipton during his high school recruitment. “It has a great coaching staff that I’m really getting to know. I also grew up playing basketball in Austin so with Texas being right in my hometown, I think it could possibly be a really great fit for me.”
In his true freshman season Presley appeared in 26 games and made five starts for Vanderbilt, averaging 2.2 points and 1.6 rebounds in his 11.8 minutes per game and shooting 42.9% from the field. Upping his production to 6.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game in the final three contests of the season where he played in 20 or more minutes per game.

Presley scored a career-high 11 points in a January matchup against No. 11 ranked Auburn, also grabbing four rebounds in one of the strongest performances of his young career.
Presley played high school basketball at San Marcos High School in Texas where he was a three-star prospect. Ranked the No. 195 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle and the No. 44 ranked shooting guard in the country, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
At 6-foot-6, 200 pounds, Presley brings some positional versatility with him to Austin with the ability to play at the guard and forward spots on the floor. In high school he was a McDonald’s All-American Game Nominee, averaging 20.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.7 steals per game in his senior season. As he now looks to continue growing into an impact player with more than just upside moving forward in his college career with the Longhorns.
