Four-star quarterback KJ Lacey of Saraland (AL) High announced his commitment to Texas Saturday afternoon.

The 6-foot-1, 180 pounder chose the Longhorns over Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, and others.

Lacey on why he chose Texas

“So some of the main things that stood out to me about Texas were how much they value relationships,” Lacey said. “What coach Sark and coach Milwee preached to me was that they don’t just offer quarterbacks because they are talented. They also want to know what type of person you are towards your teammates and peers and see if the leadership role comes to you naturally or not. They want to see if you are going to be on time with the weekly calls and see if you are taking them as seriously as they are taking you.”

Relationships with coach Sark and Milwee played a huge factor in KJ Lacey’s decision.

“The main coaches that I’m in contact with the most are coach Milwee and coach Sark,” the 2025 quarterback said. “They always let me know that from the time they saw my film and then saw how I operated my team they were all in with me. Always telling me that I was the most talented quarterback in my class and their #1 target no matter what. Their plan with me right now is to help build the class of ‘25 up and then later on when I get to campus to make me the best player and person that I can be.”

The Alabama quarterback is the first commitment in coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns’ 2025 class.
