Texas had to move swiftly from Chris Beard when he was arrested. There was a game happening that night, with the Longhorns hosting Rice at the Moody Center. Somebody was going to have to take control of the program, with athletic director Chris Del Conte selecting Rodney Terry to do so.

Fast forward nearly three months later and a Big 12 Tournament trophy is heading back to Austin from Kansas City. Texas took down three NCAA Tournament teams, with Kansas being the icing on the cake in Saturday’s championship game. What Terry has done is nothing short of incredible.

Everyone associated with the Longhorns has been cheering for Terry and you can tell how much getting a title meant to the interim head coach. After finishing an interview with ESPN’s Kris Budden, Terry was quick to start jumping around and dancing, celebrating with his team.

An awesome moment for Texas to cap off a good week at the Sprint Center. You can watch the full celebration here.

Texas could have easily stumbled, especially going up against the Big 12. Widely considered the best conference in college basketball this season, a second-place regular season finish got a fairytale ending it deserved.

Kansas was the opponent on Saturday, while Oklahoma State and TCU came in on Thursday and Friday. There are no days off when facing Big 12 opponents. When you can get three wins over the course of three days, it’s a serious accomplishment.

Next up for Terry is the NCAA Tournament, where Texas is projected to be a two-seed worst case. There could be a chance of rising to the one line but some results would need to fall their way in other conference tournament championships.

Either way, the emotion of winning a Big 12 Tournament was special. Terry has fully captured the hearts of Texas players, fans, and hopefully, Chris Del Conte.
