Houston transfer wide receiver Matthew Golden commits to Texas
Former Houston receiver Matthew Golden will transfer to play for Texas in 2024. He spent the past two seasons with the Cougars and will have two years of eligibility remaining. Hayes Fawcett was first to report.
Golden wasted no time making an impact as a true freshman in 2022 to finish third on the team with 38 catches for 584 yards and seven touchdowns. He followed that up with 38 receptions for 404 yards and six scores this season as Houston made the move to the Big 12.
As a recruit, Golden was a four-star prospect out of Klein Cain High School in Houston. He ranked as the No. 176 overall player and No. 29 receiver in the 2022 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Matthew Golden’s transfer to Texas represents a second opportunity for the receiver after the Longhorns also recruited him out of high school. With Jordan Whittington set to graduate and Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell eligible to enter the NFL Draft, Golden’s arrival should serve to help restock the receiving corps.
