Isaiah Bond injury update: Texas WR heads to locker room vs. Oklahoma
Just before halftime of Saturday’s Red River Rivalry game against Oklahoma, Texas wide receiver Isaiah Bond headed back to the locker room. He appeared to tweak an injury earlier in the game, according to ABC’s Holly Rowe.
Bond had one catch for five yards at the time of his departure. He entered Saturday’s game as the Longhorns’ leading receiver with 364 yards and three touchdowns. He also has two carries for 51 yards and a rushing touchdown.
Rowe said Bond likely tweaked an injury earlier in the game and headed to the medical tent for further evaluation. But with less than a minute to go in the first half, he ended up heading back to the locker room as Texas took a 21-3 lead into the break.
“Bad news for Texas. Isaiah Bond, their best receiver … has been taken to the locker room,” Rowe said. “Early in the game, I saw him tweak something. He came over, slammed his helmet on the sideline. They took him into the injury tent for a while. He’s been nursing it. But they have finally just taken him back off the field. I’ll update you when I know more.”
Bond is in his first year at Texas after transferring from Alabama. He quickly became the top target in Steve Sarkisian’s offense after arriving as the No. 7 overall player in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings.

Texas totaled 235 yards of offense in the first half against Oklahoma, running a balanced attack to get there. That included 113 rushing yards, which Sarkisian noted was important to opening things up to take a 21-3 lead into the locker room.
“We got the running game going,” Sarkisian told ABC’s Holly Rowe. “We’re getting a lot of split safety, a lot of three safety looks. Got to run the ball and take advantage of the light box. And we’re doing that.”
Sarkisian also praised Quinn Ewers’ efforts in the first half after he shook off a rocky start. He threw for 122 yards and a touchdown, and Sarkisian said that came down to putting him in good position.
“We’re staying out of third and longs,” Sarkisian said. “He missed a couple throws early. I think he’s in a pretty good groove now.”
