On3’s JD PicKell broke down one of the more shocking transfer portal moves in AD Mitchell taking his talents from Georgia to Texas.

In his latest video on On3’s YouTube, PicKell explained some sound reasoning for Mitchell to move on from the back-to-back champions of the college football world.

“That wide receiver room is going to get a little bit more crowded. The majority of the footballs going anyway were probably going to Brock Bowers. To make matters worse, quote-unquote, you have a new quarterback,” started PicKell. “So if my goal is to get to the NFL and if I’m AD Mitchell, and I have not a question mark, but a new beginning at quarterback. I have less share of the footballs to go around. I can be closer to home, from Missouri to Texas, and play with a quarterback who is up and coming and is going to be in his second year in the system.

“There’s other players there in the receiving room that are really solid but Isaiah Neyor, we don’t know what he’s going to bring to the table yet after the injury. Xavier Worthy, at times hasn’t brought his A-game. So for AD Mitchell, I’m saying they’re going to throw the football more there as well. I have a chance to up my draft stock. I have a chance to put more on tape and be closer to home. Sounds like a good deal to me. On paper it makes sense.

“The confusing part if you’re a Georgia fan and if you’re a college football fan in general is Georgia was winning national titles. Georgia is a place where you can go to the NFL very — I don’t want to say easily, but it doesn’t hurt. If you go play for the G, history tells us you have a pretty good shot at making the league. So I think that this is a stock move for AD Mitchell, in terms of what he saw in the system at Texas. Being closer to home. I’m also not going to be naive and say NIL wasn’t a part of this. I don’t know that for a fact, but I would assume it was. Speculating here. The best way I can sum it up is I don’t think NIL hurt this situation. I’ll leave it at that.”

During his two seasons at Georgia, Mitchell caught 38 passes for 560 receiving yards and 7 receiving touchdowns. Of course, Mitchell will always live on in Georgia history — catching to go-ahead touchdown pass in the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship Game against Alabama.

Additionally, Mitchell showed up in the biggest games yet again this past season for the Bulldogs, reeling in a score against both Ohio State and TCU for Georgia.

Alas, time will tell if AD Mitchell can improve his draft stock and have the same production with the Longhorns, but JD PicKell and the rest of the college football world can see why he’s taking the chance.
