Year 2 of the Steve Sarkisian Era at Texas kicks off in just a few weeks, and the Longhorns could be in for a big year thanks to some high-profile additions. As the season opener gets closer, On3’s J.D. PicKell predicted every game on Texas’ schedule.

Sarkisian’s group starts the year with a home game against Louisiana-Monroe before an early test in Week 2 against Alabama. Other marquee matchups include a road game against Texas Tech, the Red River Rivalry against Oklahoma and a rematch against Kansas following last year’s upset in Austin.

Here are PicKell’s full predictions for the Longhorns’ 2022 schedule:

Texas made some big changes ahead of the 2022 season

The Longhorns went 6-7 last year in Sarkisian’s first season at the helm, but he got busy overhauling the roster through high school recruiting and the transfer portal.

Texas brought in the No. 5 recruiting class in the nation in 2022, according to the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking. The headliners for that group are five-star offensive linemen DJ Campbell and Kelvin Banks — the No. 12 and No. 19 players in the nation, respectively, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average.

The Longhorns also got busy in the portal this offseason, notably landing former Ohio State quarterback, former Five Star Plus+ recruit and one-time Longhorns commit Quinn Ewers — the No. 4 transfer to hit the portal, according to the 2021 On3 Transfer Portal Rankings. The Longhorns also have former Wyoming wide receive Isaiah Neyor and former Alabama tight end Jahleel Billingsley, giving them three of On3’s top 11 transfers.

Not to be overlooked, Texas still has Bijan Robinson in the fold after a big year in 2021, rushing for 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns while also totaling 295 receiving yards and four touchdowns in the air.
