Texas RB Jonathon Brooks enters medical tent vs. Kansas State
Texas running back Jonathan Brooks went inside the medical tent prior to the end of the first quarter against Kansas State.
Eventually, the star Longhorns ball carrier came out and sat back down with the other running backs on the bench. Upon first inspection, Brooks appeared to get banged up in the neck and arm area.
Leading 10-0 going into the second quarter, Brooks had four carries for 14 yards. However, Brooks didn’t take long to return to the field.
Up 17-0, Brooks returned to the field after Texas forced another Kansas State punt.
Going into the weekend, head coach Steve Sarkisian lauded the jumps made by Brooks this year.
“I’d be remiss if I didn’t reference Jonathon Brooks (as one of the most improved players) because of just kind of where he was at the start of the season to where he is today,” Sarkisian said.
Coming into the game agianst Kansas State, Brooks had 144 carries for 923 yards, seven touchdowns and 6.4 yards per carry. He also had 22 catches for 212 yards and a touchdown.

As a member of the Class of 2021, Brooks was a four-star recruit out of Hallettsville (Texas) High, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 46 overall prospect in the state, the No. 21 running back in the class and the No. 296 overall prospect in the class.
Back in mid-October, Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt named Brooks his No. 2 running back in college football.
“Jonathon Brooks from Texas, through six games, he’s got more rushing yards than even Bijan from a year ago,” Klatt said. “At the midway point of the regular season, six games in, Brooks currently has 726 rushing yards and is on a four-game streak reaching 100 yards. He’s on fire.”
As far as Texas is concerned, the Longhorns’ star running back is key to making a run to a Big 12 title and the College Football Playoff. Having gone from Bijan Robinson to Brooks was quite the transition from 2022 to ’23 for Sarkisian and company.
