Texas guard Malik Presley enters NCAA transfer portal

Texas guard Malik Presley has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3’s Jamie Shaw has learned. He did not play in 2024 after transferring from Vanderbilt and preserved a redshirt.
Presley spent one season at Vanderbilt before arriving at Texas this past season. In 26 games under Jerry Stackhouse, including five starts, he averaged 2.2 points and 1.6 rebounds per game as a true freshman. By taking a redshirt in 2024-25, he will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Presley played high school basketball at San Marcos (TX), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 178 overall player from the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Malik Presley is the second Texas player to enter the transfer portal since the season came to an end in the First Four of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. Forward Devon Pryor also hit the open market and committed to Oregon after becoming the No. 34-ranked small forward in the portal this cycle, according to the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings.
Texas also made a splash in the portal by landing former Florida Atlantic center Matas Vokietaitis. He is the first big-time commitment for Miller as he takes over at Texas, but some of the bigger moves were keeping key pieces in place.

Jordan Pope is running it back with the Longhorns under Sean Miller after his first season with the program. He arrived in Austin this past season from Oregon State, where he spent two years. He led the Longhorns with 1.0 steal per game while averaging 11.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.
Keeping Pope was one of the priorities for Miller as he takes over for Rodney Terry. Now, the decision is official – he will be wearing the Burnt Orange once again.
Prior to his arrival at Texas, Pope had an impressive sophomore year at Oregon State. He started all 32 games that year, averaging a career-high 17.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists before entering the transfer portal. He also shot 45.1% from the field, including 37.1% from three-point territory.
Pope isn’t the only Longhorn who chose to return and enter their new era under Miller. Tramon Mark also announced he’s coming back after averaging 10.6 points per game following his transfer from Arkansas, where he had the best year of his career. Mark averaged 16.2 points per game with the Razorbacks while also adding 4.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
