Matthew McConaughey releases statement criticizing Texas fans for throwing trash vs. Georgia
Texas fans made headlines during Saturday’s loss to Georgia when debris began to be thrown on the field. The SEC has since fined the University and threatened to remove alcohol sales from Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. Both Steve Sarkisian and Kirby Smart have spoken against the fans’ actions as well.
Now, another voice is asking for the Texas student section to refrain from heaving objects onto the field — Matthew McConaughey. He released a statement on Monday afternoon, calling the move “not cool” while asking them to improve before the Longhorns’ next game against Florida on Nov. 9.
“Longhorn nation and specifically our DKR student section, M.O.C. McConaughey coming at you here,” the statement from Matthew McConaughey said.
“First off, you were electric Saturday night when we hosted Georgia. Bravo. Let’s continue to bring it. Even though our Horns didn’t get the W, you created a measurable home field advantage.
“But let’s get real about the bottle boming the field glitch we had. Not cool. Bogey move. Yeah, that call was BS, but we’re better than that. Longhorn Nation knows how to show up, show out like no other, and still keep our class.

“So, going forward let’s clean that kind of BS up and leave that behind us for good. We have to shake hands on that.
“Next up, November 9th, when the Gators come to town, let’s make sure they feel the heat, can’t hear the play calls, and burn their timeouts — but remember, nothing hits OUR field except that Texas fight.
“Til then, Root hard and Hook em. McConaughey.”
Of course, there has been a lot more made about the debris throwing due to an officiating decision made in the midst of it all. Texas had just intercepted Georgia but pass interference was called against Jahdae Barron, taking away a huge play. Fans reacted as such before the referees reversed the call and gave Texas the ball deep in Georgia territory.
Either way, not a moment people associated with the program are happy with. From Sarkisian to leadership and now the M.O.C. — they are asking for Texas fans to be better moving forward.
