Texas guard Max Abmas surpasses 3,000 career points
There have not been too many scorers in college basketball better than Max Abmas over the past five seasons. Most of the time was spent at Oral Roberts before transferring over to Texas for his final season in the sport. Abmas has continually moved up the NCAA all-time scoring leaderboard and reached another milestone on Monday.
In the second half against Kansas State, Abmas surpassed 3,000 career points. He is just the 12th player to ever break the mark and that’s where he currently ranks. There will be an opportunity to break into the top 10 as Texas moves into the home stretch of the season.
From an average standpoint, Abmas has not been as effective since moving to Austin. He is currently going for just over 17 points a night, good enough for third in the Big 12 heading into Monday. Abmas’ season high of 332 points came in January during a road loss to West Virginia.
Only one team was able to keep him out of double figures and it will not surprise you. Abmas only got seven past Houston on Saturday as Texas suffered a tough defeat away from home.
While at Oral Roberts, Abmas led the country in scoring during the 2020-2021 season at 24.5 points per game. The only time he did not lead the Summit Conference was during his true freshman season.

Abmas’ scoring became apparent on the national level during the 2021 NCAA Tournament while Oral Roberts made a run to the Sweet Sixteen. In three games, all of which were against power conference opponents, Abmas averaged 26.7 points.
Max Abmas could move up NCAA all-time scoring leaderboard
At least on the men’s side, Pete Maravich’s all-time scoring record is likely to not be touched any time soon. Too many guys are leaving college early and not staying around for at least four seasons.
Abmas does have the opportunity to break into the top 10 quite soon, with Keydren Clark currently sitting there with 3,058 points. Lionel Simmons has the No. 5 spot at 3,217 points, maybe a lofty goal for the Texas guard to reach — potentially depending on how many games the Longhorns play in the Big 12 Tournament and NCAA Tournament.
For now, Abmas is worried about finding a way to get a win vs. Kansas State. If Texas can pull it off in front of the hometown crowd, a huge celebration should be in-store of Abmas.
