According to Kendall Rogers of D1 Baseball, the Texas Longhorns will be without outfielder Max Belyeu for the remainder of the regular season. A fractured thumb will keep Belyeu sidelined after getting off to a blazing start in Year 1 of head coach Jim Schlossnagle.

“INJURY UPDATE: @TexasBaseball All-American outfielder Max Belyeu will miss the rest of the regular season with a fractured thumb, I’m told,” Rogers said via X. “Belyeu could be back for the postseason for the #Horns. He was hitting .358 with six homers and 22 RBIs this season for #Hookem.”

All does not seem lost as Rogers mentioned Texas could get Belyeu back for the postseason. The Longhorns are currently in great shape to host a regional in the NCAA Tournament. Being a top-eight seed to have a potential Super Regional in Austin is certainly in play as well.

There is still some time between the bracket being released and now, especially with Texas now playing in the SEC. Earning a high national seed will now have to come without Belyeu’s services.

Belyeu could have been on pace to have an even better 2025 than 2024. Hitting .329 with 18 home runs and 53 RBIs was enough to earn Big 12 Player of the Year. Thus far in SEC play, three home runs and nine RBIs have been produced by the former All-American.

Somebody else will now have to step up in the outfield to close out the regular season. Tuesday will begin life without Belyeu with a midweek showdown against Texas State next on the schedule. However, Friday will be Texas’ first real test.

Georgia is coming to town for a matchup between a pair of top-three teams. Both currently hold an 8-1 record in SEC play, with first place potentially being on the line. Schlossnagle will have to manage without one of his best hitters, hoping there is still enough firepower in the lineup.

It’s not all bad injury news for Texas

Losing Belyeu is massive news for the Longhorns but it’s not all negative. Rogers added to his report with positive news regarding Adrian Rodriguez and Rylan Galvan. Texas feared the worst for Rodriguez but received positive news. A huge sigh of relief comes from Austin on that front.

“There is some good news for @TexasBaseball,” Rogers said. “Adrian Rodriguez and Rylan Galvan, who have been terrific this spring, are considered day-to-day. Rodriguez was feared to have a pretty serious injury.”
