Texas heads into the bottom of the fourth inning against Oklahoma up just one run. But you have to feel like some more runs could be on the board for head coach Mike White. The Longhorns have been getting runners on base and despite seeing three cross the plate, a few have already been left on.

White is happy with the situation his players are putting themselves in but hoping as the game progresses, they cash in at some point. If you let Oklahoma hang around for long enough, they will make you pay. Getting as many runs as you can in the bank will go a long way, especially when facing elimination.

“We’re definitely getting more opportunities tonight and we’re taking advantage of it,” White said when speaking with ESPN’s Holly Rowe during an in-game interview. “Hopefully, we can continue to score some more runs.”

Oklahoma head coach Patty Gasso was always going to have some tough pitching decisions to make on Thursday. Texas being efficient in the box has forced her to make some moves already, though. White pointed out how the Sooners are on pitcher No. 3 through four innings.

Just another advantage to having one of the best rosters in all of college softball.

“They have the luxury of having a lot of pitchers,” White said. “They can bring them in. We’ve seen three already, I think.”

Gasso will continue to throw different looks at Texas, especially if her pitchers get in jams. She knows the Oklahoma offense can strike at any moment and blow the game wide open.

White is hoping to avoid that as his team fights to stay alive and force a Game 3 in the Women’s College World Series Finals.

Texas hoping to force Game 3 against Oklahoma

With Oklahoma being one win away from winning a fourth consecutive national championship, Texas will be doing everything in its power to force a Game 3. This is the fate they faced back in 2022 but fell short in two games, watching their arch-rivals win the title. A tough moment for White and everyone involved with the Texas program.

If there is a Game 3, Oklahoma City will once again be the site on Friday night. The Women’s College World Series has been full of drama and there is nothing more dramatic than a winner take all game for the national championship.
