On300 4-star DL Alex January commits to Texas Longhorns
Duncanville (Texas) four-star defensive lineman Alex January took his official visit to Texas last weekend, and the Longhorns are keeping the in-state star at home. January has announced his commitment to Steve Sarkisian and Co.
The 6-foot-5, 320-pounder is the latest pledge for the Longhorns, who have already added five commitments in the month of June — all four-star prospects.
He also took official visits to LSU, Florida State, and Texas Tech this month, but Texas got the last one as they hosted him and his father, Mike January, a former linebacker for the Longhorns, and his older brother, who also goes to Texas.
“I really liked it a lot,” January told Inside Texas. “I really like all the coaches, the staff, and know a lot of the players already. Cam (Williams) was my host and we had a blast.”
Part of the itinerary was seeing everything Austin has to offer, and January and his family soaked it up.

“We did a little bit of everything,” said January. “Really just hanging with all the guys and experiencing Austin. We talked football, academics with the staff, life after football, and just learned more about Texas.”
Alex January is Texas’ first defensive line commitment this cycle
The massive January is the No. 422 prospect in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks as the nation’s No. 39 defensive lineman and No. 71 prospect in Texas.
On3 is significantly higher on him than other recruiting services though, tabbing him as the country’s No. 217 prospect, No. 21 defensive lineman and No. 44 recruit in the Lone Star State.
He is just the second defensive commit in this cycle for the Longhorns and the first along the defensive line.
