On300 recruit Derrick Brown doubles down on Texas commitment
Texarkana (Texas) Texas four-star EDGE Derrick Brown is one of the top recruits in the 2022 recruit class for Texas. And he wants people to know that is not going to change.
Brown, who is the No. 221 overall recruit in the 2022 On300 rankings, tweeted Sunday that he is “never decommitting” from Texas.
Derrick Brown’s journey to Texas
Brown visited the Longhorns in June and then chose Texas over Baylor at the end of July.
Derrick Brown is one of 13 commits in the On300, eight of which are players on the defensive side of the football.
That group includes Houston North Shore defensive lineman Kristopher Ross, Marlin (Texas) High defensive lineman Jaray Bledsoe, Aledo (Texas) High safety Bryan Allen Jr, Donaldsonville (La.) Ascension Catholic EDGE J’Mond Tapp, Southaven (Miss.) High defensive lineman Aaron Bryant , Denton (Texas) Ryan safety Austin Jordan and Trussville (Ala.) Hewitt-Trussville defensive lineman Justice Finkley.
He told 247 Sports last month that he believes that Texas will end up with the best recruiting class in the nation.
Texas lost a prime recruiting opportunity yesterday
While Derrick Brown’s premonition may turn out to be true, Texas missed out on a prime opportunity yesterday to do impress recruits across the country.

Michigan prepared to offer No. 1 recruit $10.5M over 4 years
After dominating its first quarter against Oklahoma at the Red River Showdown, the Longhorns allowed the Sooners to complete the largest comeback in the rivalry game’s history in a disatourous collapse.
On top of that, Texas A&M upset Alabama in a remarkable game in College Station, Texas, that impressed recruits all across the state and the country.
On3’s Gerry Hamilton said before the game that if Texas had won and Texas A&M lost, the Longhorns would be in incredible shape for the stretch run of the recruiting cycle.
“If Texas beats Oklahoma Saturday, then all bets are off,” he said. “They may fill all the slots because they’re gonna be working with a lot of momentum when you combine that with assuming Alabama pummels A&M. If Texas this weekend beat Oklahoma, gets to 5-1 and looks like they’re headed to the Big 12 championship in year one under Steve Sarkisian, and then A&M’s struggles continue, Texas is gonna have so much momentum.”
But that did not happen. The Longhorns did not lose all their momentum but they lost a prime change to set itself apart from the rest of the country.
