Oregon State transfer guard Jordan Pope on official visit to Texas

Oregon State transfer guard Jordan Pope is currently on his official visit with the Texas Longhorns, On3’s Joe Tipton reported on Wednesday evening. Pope averaged 17.6 points per game this year for Oregon State. He’s one of the hottest prospects in the transfer portal and is scheduled to visit Texas A&M later in the week. Michigan has also been in contact with Pope about a potential transfer, according to On3’s Joe Tipton.

Pope led the charge for Oregon State this year, averaging a team-high 17.6 points and 3.4 assists. He also shot 45.1% from the floor, including 37.1% from three-point distance, as the Beavers went 13-19 overall this year.

It was a solid leap from a freshman season in which he averaged 12.6 points. Pope also knocked down 60 three-pointers in his debut season, setting the Beavers freshman record for three-pointers made in a single season. For his efforts, he was named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman team. It didn’t take him long at all to get comfortable with his new team, as he led the Beavers with 19 points in their season-opener against Tulsa.

Pope played high school basketball at Prolific Prep (Calif.), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 190 overall player from the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Pope was named the third all-time leading scorer in program history in just three seasons. As a sophomore, he averaged 15.3 points per game and led the team to a Grind Session championship. As a junior, he stuffed the stat sheet with 12.9 points per outing. His senior season, he averaged 17.8 points per game and was named the Under the Radar Player of the Year.

Oregon State struggled mightily this past season, finishing 13-19 overall and 5-15 in Pac-12 play for the second straight year. It’s been a rough go for the Beavers since a run to the Elite Eight in 2022, amassing a 27-68 record in the years since.

The portal losses also add to the changes the program will undergo in 2024-25. After the Pac-12 split up in a groundbreaking round of conference realignment, Oregon State and Washington State announced their plans to join the West Coast Conference in all sports besides football and baseball.

That means the two schools played their last Pac-12 games this season.
