Pat McAfee dropped a bomb regarding Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers in advance of the Longhorns’ Big 12 showdown with Texas Tech.

According to McAfee, ESPN analyst Pete Thamel shot him a text while he was on-set in Knoxville for College GameDay, which contained an update on Ewers that McAfee shared with the world.

“The authority (Pete Thamel) literally just texted me and told me some inside information, so I don’t know if I’m breaking anything here. Quinn Ewers, the quarterback that got hurt in the game against Alabama, that we all thought was going to be out for the entire season. If you do recall, slinging that thing down the entire field against Alabama’s defense. He practiced all week. He might be available for this game,” stated McAfee. “If not him, Hudson Card, who’s come in and done incredible against the teams in relief for Quinn. This Sark team feels to be building a new culture. This would kind of be a game to cement that, against a Texas Tech team that the coach said the fans are going to be drunk, and the environment is going to be wild.

“Is it Quinn, is it Hudson — we don’t know, but this is massive for Sark’s culture right now.”

While Hudson Card is more than capable, having Ewers return to the field would be massive for the Longhorns, giving them a jolt of energy that could propel them moving forward.

Nevertheless, there’s immense hype behind Texas and Steve Sarkisian’s team will be hoping to leave Lubbock with a victory, regardless of if Pat McAfee is correct or not.

Steve Sarkisian provides update on quarterback room ahead of Texas Tech matchup

Moreover, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian once again has a room full of options when it comes to who will lead the Longhorns into battle on Saturday, as he stated earlier this week. After going down to the wire with injuries ahead of the UTSA game and ultimately starting Hudson Card, Sarkisian revealed that all four of Texas’ quarterbacks practiced throughout the week.

It’s great news for Texas as they prepare for a Big 12 showdown on the road versus the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

“Steve Sarkisian said all his QBs practiced today, including Maalik Murphy and Quinn Ewers: ‘Everybody was in there doing their team drills and different things,’” InsideTexas‘s Joe Cook reported from the head coach’s press conference.

Quinn Ewers, who started the season for Texas before suffering a collarbone injury, has progressed daily since his injury versus Alabama. He even suited up and tossed the ball during pregame warmups on Saturday before the UTSA game.

True freshman quarterback Maalik Murphy was not in contention last week to take over for Ewers due to his health, according to Sarkisian. However, he’s been dressed out and warming up for each of the team’s first three games this season. Murphy was a four-star prospect in the 2022 signing class, and No. 205 overall, according to the On3 Consensus.
