Purdue transfer forward Camden Heide commits to Texas

Former Purdue forward Camden Heide has committed to Texas, via the NCAA Transfer Portal. He initially entered the transfer portal on April 2.
Heide spent three seasons at Purdue but redshirted his true freshman season. He 36 appearances and eight starts for the Boilermakers this season. The 6-foot-7 redshirt sophomore averaged 4.7 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while shooting 49.1% from the floor and 39.2% from beyond the arc.
Heide had a solid outing in Purdue’s season-ending loss to Houston in the Sweet Sixteen. In the loss, Heide recorded nine points and five rebounds on 3-6 shooting from the floor. Heide scored a season-high 15 points in the Boilermakers’ win over Maryland on Dec. 8.
In his redshirt freshman season, Heide only averaged 3.3 points in 12.5 minutes per game. As previously mentioned, he didn’t see any action in his true freshman year, as he sat out while recovering from a foot injury.
Camden Heide played high school basketball at Wayzata (MN), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 130 overall player and No. 33 small forward in the 2022 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Heide was the fourth Purdue player to enter the transfer portal this offseason. Now, he will look to find success with the Longhorns with two years of eligibility remaining.

He’ll be far from the only fresh face in Austin next season. After Texas lost in the First Four of the NCAA Tournament, the school fired head coach Rodney Terry. It didn’t take long for the Longhorns to find a replacement and they named former Xavier’s Sean Miller Texas’ next head coach on March 23.
Miller spent the past three seasons at Xavier, where he amassed a 65-40 record. He reached the NCAA Tournament twice during his three-year stint at the helm, including a run to the Sweet Sixteen in the 2022-23 campaign.
Dailyn Swain, who averaged 11.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game last season for Xavier, is following Miller to Texas. With six Xavier players in the transfer portal thus far this offseason, Miller could have more former Musketeers join him at Texas.
