Texas QB Quinn Ewers announces decision to return to Texas for 2024 season
This season, Quinn Ewers did something no Texas quarterback has done since 2009. He led the Longhorns to a Big 12 Championship — their last before heading to the SEC next year — and to the College Football Playoff.
In his third year of college football, though, Ewers had a decision to make. He could opt to come back, or declare for the NFL Draft. He has officially made that call, opting to return to Texas for the 2024 season.
Ewers announced the decision via social media on Thursday.
Ewers took a big step forward in 2023, even despite missing time with an injury. He threw for 3,161 yards and 21 touchdowns across 11 games as a redshirt sophomore. His biggest game, though, came in the Big 12 Championship against Oklahoma State when he threw for 452 yards and four touchdowns to set new title game records in both categories.
That wasn’t the first time Ewers played well on a big stage, though. In Week 2, he helped Texas to a double-digit victory over Alabama at Bryant Denny Stadium behind 349 yards and three touchdowns.
It’s been an interesting journey for Quinn Ewers, who reclassified to the class of 2021 to enroll at Ohio State. He only played in a blowout victory over Michigan State before entering the transfer portal and returning home to Texas.

Players will have the opportunity to solidify their draft stock at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, to be held in Indianapolis, Indiana from February 26 through March 4.
The three-day event will be broadcasted throughout the weekend on ESPN and NFL Network.
To be eligible for the NFL Draft, players must be at least three years removed from their final year of high school while having used up their collegiate eligibility. Underclassmen are able to request league approval to become eligible for the draft, as are players who have graduated prior to using up all of their collegiate eligibility.
Last season, 69 players were granted special eligibility for the 2023 NFL Draft. 13 underclassmen who had completed their college degrees were also deemed eligible to be selected.
The deadline to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft is on January 15. NFL teams will receive a full list of eligible players in the class on January 19.
