At the start of the Vanderbilt week, it was briefly reported that Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers would sit out the season to prepare for the NFL Draft. However, that was quickly deleted and didn’t end up having any validity.

The post still created a stir at the time, and Ewers recently addressed the erroneous report that he was planning on sitting out the rest of the season, sharing that he doesn’t know where it came from.

“Yea it was pretty random,” Quinn Ewers said. “I didn’t really know where they got that from. Whether they got hacked or not. It looked pretty similar to all the edits that they make. But, it was definitely weird. Not much else to say about it. It was weird.”

This comes during a season where there has been a lot of attention on players, often big name players, sitting out and using their redshirts. That has, largely, been to try and save a year of eligibility and prepare to transfer to a new program. Leaving to prepare for the NFL Draft at this point in the season, especially for a quarterback in College Football Playoff contention, would be a major surprise.

Typically, players who sit out to prepare for the NFL Draft only skip a bowl game, and it’s rare that players would skip out on something like the College Football Playoff.

The initial erroneous report came on Instagram in a graphic package from 247 Sports. The post was quickly deleted and 247 Sports later stated that their account had been hacked.

Following the news of the report, Ewers took to social media. There, he posted on his story that it was “fake news” and that he would be continuing this season with the Texas Longhorns.

Quinn Ewers is a former Five-Star Plus+ recruit and the No. 1 prospect in the 2021 class started his career at Ohio State before transferring to Texas for the 2022 season. He is now in his third season as the starter with the Longhorns, having led Texas to the College Football Playoff last season.

There is an expectation that Quinn Ewers could be a top NFL Draft pick. He’s currently being projected as somewhere between a top-10 pick and falling out of the first round entirely.
