Quinn Ewers details biggest differences from last year
There are a lot of things that are noticeably different about Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers as he prepares for a second season leading the program on the field. But one of the areas where he is truly different might be unnoticeable until you see him in action.
Luckily for us, during a recent press conference, the Longhorns signal caller revealed the biggest difference for him from heading into the 2022 season to heading into 2023.
“Yeah, for sure, mainly just the knowledge of the offense,” said Ewers. “Because this time last year, I was still trying to pick up the offense and certain checks and whatnot; stuff like that. And this year, I can just kind of be more me and play more freely, not have to think as much about what does this guy have. It just automatically clicks, which is huge for my position because I can focus more on fronts and keep myself protected.”
Last season, in just 10 games, Ewers threw for 2177 yards, 15 touchdowns, and six interceptions. That was just his first season at Texas under Sarkisian and just his first as a starting quarterback in college football. But with what he has learned from the Longhorns’ offensive-minded head coach from last season and over this offseason, the expectations are huge for Ewers.

Sarkisian addresses Ewers decision to cut mullet
In the modern world of college sports, name, image, and likeness, NIL, can play a huge role in what some players do image-wise. At the professional level, individuals like Anthony Davis and James Harden in the NBA have made brands of themselves based on their hair: Davis, “The Brow,” and Harden, “The Beard.” Ewers was getting similar attention for his sweet, sweet mullet haircut. But this offseason, he decided to do away with the trendy doo, cutting the mullet and going for a more clean-cut look.
Recently, Sarkisian, addressed Ewers’ decision to change his hairstyle, adding a little insight and perspective as to why his quarterback made the change.
“I didn’t mind the mullet. But I also know what perception is,” said Sarkisian. “And like we talked about with him, right now, the perception of you is proceeding you before you meet anybody. So, sometimes, you need to change the perception so that people really get to know you.”
