Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers could declare for the NFL Draft following this season. It’s going to be a big decision for him to make when the time comes. However, for the time being, Ewers is trying to stay focused on the task at hand.

When asked about what is going into that decision, Ewers deflected the question, saying that he’s trying to win a conference championship right now.

“Right now, I’m just trying to win a Big 12 Championship,” Quinn Ewers said. “You can’t look too far ahead or you’ll miss what’s right in front of you.”

2023 was Quinn Ewers’ second full season as the starting quarterback at Texas and it’s expected that he will have an NFL future. However, it’s still a question if he’ll go pro after this season or wait another year. This season, he has completed 69.8 percent of passes for 2,709 yards and 17 touchdowns, improving on his numbers from his first season as the starter. He put up those numbers amid a season shortened by an injury.

There is a lot for Quinn Ewers to decide before making the leap to the NFL. The first is whether or not he’s ready for the challenge and jump up in competition from college. Another thing to consider for Ewers is just how crowded the field of players is in this year’s class of quarterbacks. By waiting a season, he could be drafted in a better position.

For now, though, Oklahoma State and a potential trip to the College Football Playoff are at the forefront of Quinn Ewers’ mind.

Steve Sarkisian evaluates Arch Manning’s college debut

Once Quinn Ewers does declare for the NFL Draft, he will likely be replaced by Arch Manning, who head coach Steve Sarkisian was happy with in his debut against Texas Tech.

“Backups are always kind of the fan favorite, but when Arch went in the crowd was buzzing. We had to try to quiet the crowd. Probably there are some butterflies and some anxiousness first time playing early on,” Sarkisian said.

“But one thing I was impressed with was in that last 90-yard drive with our 2s. What a drive for those guys. Super proud for them. Two good third-down conversions in there, the conversion to Johntay [Cook], the conversion to Casey Cain. In the previous drive, he used his legs really well. Things for him to build upon moving forward but happy he was able to get in.”
