Quinn Ewers on being a champion at Texas: 'No better feeling'
Quinn Ewers dreamed of leading the Texas Longhorns to a Big 12 title, and it became a reality on Saturday afternoon.
The star quarterback etched his name into Longhorns’ history with a historic performance in Saturday’s game. He went 35-46 (76.1%) for 452 yards, four touchdowns, and an interception. It was his career-high in passing yards while also setting a new record for the Big 12 Championship. The four passing scores also tied the most in his career.
But that statistic that really mattered to Ewers was Texas’ 28-point victory over Oklahoma State, which sent them to the College Football Playoff, and stated to the world that Texas was back.
“There’s no better feeling, honestly, especially for the guys who just dreamed of playing here and coming to their state. And accomplishing something to this magnitude has been just nothing but a blessing,” Ewers said, regarding the reach of Texas’ victory. “I didn’t know that it was broadcast in all those places. So to hear that, it’s pretty cool.
“Especially, I tell these guys come out here and play like no one’s seen us play before and show them what Texas football is really about and what we believe in and all that stuff. But that’s a pretty cool stat you said there.”
Alas, the Longhorns quarterback is simply ready to lead his team into battle on New Year’s Day now. Still, the thrill of winning the Big 12 has barely sunk in for Ewers.
“I mean it’s just super cool,” said Ewers. “I mean, obviously, it just happened so it’s still kind of sinking in.”

“Just, again, super proud of how this team handles everything that comes their way. How we continue to just do what we do and not worry about what’s going on outside of this building. We’re just blessed, super blessed to take part in this upcoming playoff.”
Moreover, Ewers has come a long way since the start of his career. After a stop at Ohio State and an okay first season in Austin, it means so much to the in-state product to capitalize and get Texas into the CFP.
Now, from here, his work as well as the Longhorns’ will continue until they take the field in the Sugar Bowl against a familiar opponent on New Year’s Day.
“It’s unreal. I mean I get goosebumps every time I even think about it,” said Ewers.
“Again, just truly honored to be a part of a team that works this hard. I know that we’re going to come to play. We played Washington in the Alamo Bowl last year. It’s kind of funny how that all works out (We) couldn’t be more excited for this amazing opportunity.”
