Quinn Ewers reacts to IG post alleging Texas QB will sit for remainder of season
A report on Instagram that revealed Quinn Ewers was sitting out for the rest of the season in favor of preparing for the 2025 NFL Draft was quickly debunked on Monday.
The Texas quarterback has since commented on the matter, where he confirmed it was “fake news.”
On3’s Pete Nakos spoke to a source close Ewers, who said the report was “absolutely not true,” and the he practiced with the team on Monday despite not meeting with media, which he typically does on Mondays.
It’s true that the Longhorns quarterback hasn’t been on the same tear he was on before his Week 3 injury, but Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian defended Ewers after Saturday’s 30-15 loss to Georgia. Sarkisian confirmed that Ewers was to remain the team’s starting quarterback moving forward despite slowing down since his return.

There was debate regarding what Sarkisian would do at quarterback moving forward given the fact that Ewers was taken out of Saturday’s loss against Georgia in favor of Arch Manning during the second quarter. However, Manning was relieved for Ewers for the entire second half.
“I appreciate the fact we’re fortunate enough to have a backup like Arch that could come into the game and provide a spark in some sense,” Sarkisian said on Saturday night. “At the end of the day, Quinn’s our starter. I think, like I said, we’ve got to do a better job around him. I think he would tell you he can play better, but we’ve got to coach better. Everybody’s got to be better for our offense to perform better.”
Ewers is still one of the top-rated quarterbacks eligible for the 2025 NFL Draft this spring, but for now his focus is on getting his team to regroup ahead of Week 9’s road trip to a hot Vanderbilt team, who is now ranked in the top 25. The opening kickoff is set for 4:15 p.m. ET live on the SEC Network.
