Quinn Ewers shoots down questioning on decision to enroll early at Ohio State
Quinn Ewers made a landmark decision prior to last season, re-classifying to the Class of 2021 to enroll at Ohio State and sign an NIL deal. A lot has changed since then, though, and he’s now at Texas after entering the transfer portal.
But when asked whether he thinks that was the right move, he made his stance pretty clear.
“It’s all in the past,” Ewers said. “I try not to focus on all that. I try to just keep tunnel vision and focus on what’s ahead.”
Ewers didn’t play much at Ohio State, only seeing action one time — in a blowout victory over Michigan State. He didn’t throw a pass, though, and decided to enter the transfer portal in December. He committed to Texas shortly thereafter, and now will compete for the starting job with Hudson Card.
Quinn Ewers explains what factored into decision to leave Ohio State
It took longer than most people expected, but Quinn Ewers is finally at Texas. A Southlake, Texas native, Ewers initially committed to play football for the Longhorns in August 2020, but decommitted just two months later and chose to take his talents to Ohio State.
While Ewers didn’t see much action as a freshman with the Buckeyes as he played behind standout CJ Stroud, he ultimately made the decision to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal and ended up back home.
A former Five Star Plus+ quarterback, Ewers’ transfer to Texaswas a big storyline that took place during the wild college football offseason. His progression since joining the Longhorns’ program has been a big storyline throughout spring practices as he competes for the starting quarterback job with Hudson Card.

Meeting with the media on Thursday for the first time since transferring to Texas, Ewers addressed what factored into his decision to leave Ohio State and come to Texas. More specifically, he was asked if Stroud likely being the starter again played a factor.
“Obviously, CJ is a great player [and] great human being,” Ewers said. “We have a good relationship. I’m super pumped for what he has in store for the rest of his career. At the end of the day, I just wanted to be closer to my family and friends and stuff like that.”
Reflecting back to his high school days when he first committed to Texas before flipping to Ohio State, Ewers admitted that it probably wasn’t the right choice for him, but he’s now where he should be.
“I feel like I kind of committed more emotionally, but at the end of the day I ended up where I think I should be,” Ewers said. “That’s all there is to it.”
