Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers was one of the most highly touted players in college football recruiting history coming out of high school. So, when he speaks, it tends to create a buzz. He might be in the middle of a fierce battle for the starting quarterback position with the ‘Horns in fall camp, but the signal-caller took some time on Twitter on Wednesday night to tease a big upcoming announcement on August 19th.

It’s tough to guess what the upcoming announcement might be. We’ll just have to wait and see what he reveals in a few days.

Texas held a team scrimmage on Saturday, with a lot of the spotlight being on the quarterbacks. Longhorns’ head coach Steve Sarkisian is dealing with another competition as he enters year two, as Hudson Card and Quinn Ewers battle it out with one another for the starting role in fall camp.

Recently on ESPN’s “Always College Football” show, former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy broke down Ewers and his potential heading into the 2022 college football season.

“And finally, Quinn Ewers at the University of Texas, who was a unanimous top prospect a year ago that decided to leave high school a year early to capitalize on NIL. He signs with Ohio State. Doesn’t play. Redshirts. Now transfers to Texas where he was originally committed. He’s battling with Hudson Card, who started a couple games last year, but I think a lot of people assume it’s gonna be Quinn Ewers who will be the starting quarterback for the Longhorns. He has major upside. Has major potential. But will he be able to live up to that in year number one as the starter in Steve Sarkisian’s offense?” McElroy said.

Ewers starred for the Southlake Caroll Dragons (Southlake, Texas) in high school. He was a five-star prospect and was rated as the No. 1 overall player in America in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus.

The signal-caller led Southlake Carroll to the Texas 6A state championship game in January of 2021. His team lost to Westlake (Austin, Texas) and five-star quarterback Cade Klubnik, Clemson’s freshman quarterback, 52-34. In 2019, Ewers was named the MaxPreps National Sophomore of the Year after he guided Southlake Carroll to a 13-1 record and a Texas 6A state quarterfinal appearance.

He’ll get his chance in the coming years to prove he can live up to the lofty billing.
