Quinn Ewers, Vince Young share moment on field following upset win vs. Alabama
When Texas looks back at Saturday’s win against Alabama, the performance of Quinn Ewers will be remembered forever. By far the best outing of his college career, Ewers put on a clinic at Bryant-Denny Stadium. It made the postgame festivities that much better, celebrating with the most legendary Texas quarterback of them all.
Ewers shared a moment with Vince Young on the field following the game. Young is widely regarded as the best player to ever come through the Texas program, helping the Longhorns win a national championship in 2005. Ewers is not quite there but earning a win in Tuscaloosa is a step in the right direction.
Originally embracing his center, Jake Majors, Ewers was tapped on the head by Young. The two Texas quarterbacks dapped each other up before Young shared a few words with Ewers. Already having a prior relationship, celebrating with Young had to be an incredible feeling for Ewers.

The stat line from Ewers is an incredible one — 24 of 38 passing for 349 yards and three touchdowns. Plenty of questions about the quarterback were there leading into the game. Inconsistencies hampered Ewers throughout the 2022 season and the first half against Rice was not the best dress rehearsal.

But Ewers wound up doing something somebody in a Texas uniform has not done since Young was at the Rose Bowl lifting the crystal ball national championship trophy. Questions were certainly answered about Ewers, cementing himself with a historic performance.
“Quinn Ewers is the first Texas QB since Vince Young in the Texas-USC national title game to account for 350+ total yards and 3+ TDs against a top-three opponent,” Matt Zenitz of On3 said via Twitter. Ewers came up one yard short of 350 when looking at his passing stats but gained 11 yards on the ground.
Now, Texas will be hoping Ewers can take them to the level Young did nearly two decades ago. There is still a long road to go, with 10 games remaining on the schedule. Big 12 play is going to be difficult, especially in the program’s last season in the conference.
That night in Tuscaloosa is never going to be forgotten, though. Ewers stepped up in the biggest way possible on the biggest stage Texas has been on in a long time.
