Quinn Ewers: 'We have depth everywhere'
There are high expectations for the Texas Longhorns, in large part due to the team’s depth across the board. That depth is something that starting quarterback Quinn Ewers praised following the team’s spring game.
It was a close game, which didn’t surprise Ewers given the depth that Texas has on its team at every position, making the two squads fairly even.
“Like you said, it was a really close game,” Quinn Ewers said. “And we have depth everywhere at the end of the day. All these guys are more than capable of being put in there and playing the way we like to play.”
Interestingly, Quinn Ewers didn’t play much himself during the Spring Game. That was, according to head coach Steve Sarkisian, part of the plan, because the Longhorns have younger players he wanted to give reps to.
Still, this is Ewers’ team going into the 2024 season. That will be Texas’ first in the SEC and will kick-off on August 31st against Colorado State. Then, Texas’ first SEC game will be on September 28th, against Mississippi State.

Steve Sarkisian on dynamic between Quinn Ewers, Arch Manning
One place where Texas has plenty of depth is the quarterback spot, with Arch Manning backing up Quinn Ewers. That could create a tense dynamic, but one that head coach Steve Sarkisian says has been great for the Longhorns.
“I don’t take that for granted. You know, there’s a lot of other schools out there with one guy and what happens if something happens to him? So again, we’re in a good spot and those guys are working hard, doing a great job and I think their rapport together, you know, the way they work together and push each other and make each other better. The relationship they have is very healthy,” Sarkisian said.
“Last Saturday we had a pretty extensive scrimmage, about 130 plays and I thought Quinn really played lights out. And it’s, you know, we’ve got a ton of new faces in that receiver room and in the tight end room. So it’s been a little bit of a work in progress of getting that rapport. Guys are working hard and we’re trying to get all that done. But I thought Quinn played at a really high level.”
