Rodney Terry addresses his future at Texas after loss to Xavier

Texas had its season end with a comeback loss taken in the First Four of the NCAA Tournament. With it done, Rodney Terry has become the question with conflicting reports on his future as head coach of the Longhorns.
Following the 86-80 loss to Xavier in Dayton, Terry was asked about the conversations to come once they return to Austin. His answers, though, focused on the present more so after having lost to the Musketeers.
“Well, I think, at the end of the day, I think you always control what you can control, you know,” Terry said. The response came when pressed on his future with the Longhorns.
Terry was thinking more about the loss the Longhorns had just taken despite leading at one point by as much as 13. That included how it was affecting this team of his after all they’d given to him this season, especially in this last week in even getting themselves into the field.
“We were excited about being in this tournament. I thought we had a team that was playing really well and capable of making a really good run here,” Terry said. “Got off to, you know, one of our better halves of the year. I mean, first half was terrific but we knew, again, as you play this game, that it’s always ebbing and flowing. There’s always runs.

“You know, I think, when, when everything’s said and done, I think you always thank the guys that have laid it all on the line for you every night and, and that was our players. They did it every day for me. They did it every night for me. There’s not one guy in that room I wouldn’t do anything for the rest of their lives.”
With the loss, Texas finished the season at 19-16 overall. It was its worst finish of just under three seasons under Terry as, after a season as interim before his last two as head coach, the Longhorns are 62-36 (.633) in his tenure and 40-28 (.588) in the pair of full years for Terry.
Because of that, reporting has already come out that Texas is considering moving on from Terry. Some of that has since been disputed but, still, it’s currently up in the air right now on The 40 Acres. Terry understands it too. He’ll now return back from the Longhorns’ tournament appearance and, with that, discuss what’s next for the program once they do.
“I think when you talk about, you know, evaluating the season? You do that when the dust settles, you know, and, just like you would after any season. So, I’m sure there’ll be an opportunity where we’ll get a chance to sit down and talk about the season and what our thoughts are, what our thoughts were about the season and you kind of go with it from there,” Terry said.
