Rodney Terry addresses his status as Texas' interim coach

This has been a tumultuous season for Texas basketball. Head coach Chris Beard was suspended indefinitely by the university after being arrested by Austin PD. He was charged with “Assault on a family/household member.” During the assault he allegedly choked the victim, preventing her from breathing. Rodney Terry was then named interim head coach.
This wasn’t an easy situation for Terry to be thrown into. Recently, he was asked if he had an update about his status as the interim head coach.
“You know what, I don’t right now,” Terry said.
“With everything we’ve been just so lost in focus working with this group. We’ve got a really good group to work with that comes in with a great attitude and great approach every day. We’re just trying to do everything we can to put these guys in the best position to be successful and continue to work with them. We love working with this group and I think, again, the sky’s the limit on how good this group can be as the season continues to move forward.”
Terry has coached three games at Texas since the suspension of Chris Beard. In those games, the Longhorns are 3-0, beating Rice, Stanford, and Louisiana.
Texas’ next game will be against Texas A&M-Commerce, before starting Big 12 play against Oklahoma.

Rodney Terry spoke about the adjustment to being the interim coach
Terry spoke about the adjustment to being the interim head coach. It, obviously, hasn’t been easy due to the circumstances. Luckily, he already had a relationship with the team.
“When I was brought here, I was brought here in an associate role as the head coach, but we talked about being a co-head coach and that sort of thing. So you know, we’ve worked together. We’ve been a great team together. I work with the defense, he works with the offense. I game-plan for every ball game, so every ball game I’m closely involved with,” Rodney Terry said.
“In terms of a timeline, I mean from the time I woke up this morning there was something that we were having to deal with a little bit. We obviously had a chance to address our team and talk to them a little bit about what was going on, as well.”
