Rodney Terry credits Texas for being unselfish

Despite not having head coach Chris Beard at the moment due to some off-the-court complications, Texas Men’s Basketball is rolling. The Longhorns are 10-1 and are hot off a 100-72 victory over Louisiana, where interim coach Rodney Terry led the way from the bench. Since he stepped in for Beard, the ship has stayed afloat in Austin. It’s a testament to the system the Longhorns run, which Terry said after the game requires a lot of ball movement.

He was asked in the postgame press conference how he’s kept the team humming on the court amid a tough situation off the court. The key: unselfish play on offense, with constant motion and crisp passes.

“Yeah, offensive flow, these guys are a very unselfish team. You know, on any given night, we can have anybody be the leading scorer,” answered Terry. “But again, we gotta share the ball, move the ball. We work extremely hard at it, you know. Our entire staff does a great job with it, and we worked really hard at trying to get these guys to understand how hard it is to get that ball moving. If we’re able to get that ball moving side to side, then we’ll attack and try to own the Big 12 a little bit. We’ll get some opportunities for some of our guys.”

Keep that ball popping around between the five dudes on the court and Texas should have no problem sustaining their excellent offense, even without the mastermind behind it present on the sideline.

Update on Dylan Disu’s ankle injury

Texas took a hit in its front-court during their win over Louisiana the other night when 6-foot-9 forward Dylan Disu went down with an ankle injury. He’s the tallest player on the Texas roster and one of just three rotation players taller than 6-foot-6. On a Texas team that lacks a lot of size, Disu was one of the few true forwards on the roster and was the top rim protector.

Luckily, though, Disu’s ankle injury is believed to be a small sprain and he is expected back pretty soon. Here was the latest on the Disu injury from Texas reporter Jeff Howe:

“I’ve been told @TexasMBB‘s Dylan Disu has a left knee sprain and his status is day-to-day. Disu was injured in the first half of last night’s 100-72 win over Louisiana. #Longhorns are off until Christmas Day and will then start prep for Texas A&M-Commerce next Tuesday. #HookEm.“
