Rodney Terry was in a good mood following another big victory for Texas on Tuesday.

After the Longhorns defeated the Iowa State Cyclones by a score of 75-54, Terry spoke about how special his faith is to him, and how an interaction with Drew Pearson — the legendary Dallas Cowboys wide receiver — from earlier this season meant the world to him.

“I’m a believer, so I’m always going to give God the credit,” started Terry. “Be thankful for every opportunity and every situation that we’re involved with right now. Speaking for myself, my strong faith, I’m a believer.

“To have an opportunity to meet a guy like Drew Pearson, grew up a fan. I mean, I’d go out on the playground and think I was Drew Pearson after I watched those guys play. He was my favorite guy, and always thought he was a class guy both on and off the field. Was very proud that he was able to join the Hall of Fame as well, because I thought he was one of the more deserving of it as well. I was a little biased because he was my favorite player, but he helped up win a Super Bowl during his time there as well, as a Cowboy.”

If Texas keeps playing the way they are, Rodney Terry might put Drew Pearson on the payroll. The Longhorns are one of the best teams in the nation, and they’re showing no signs of slowing down.

But before they look too far into the future, Texas has a massive upcoming road game against another in-conference former national championship team, the Baylor Bears. After the victory against Iowa State, Texas head coach Rodney Terry talked about his mindset with the matchup looming and a Big 12 conference title hanging in the balance.

“Well, I think this group’s done a great job of just attacking what’s in front of us,” said Terry. “Tonight was a big game for us because it was the next game in front of us. Obviously, we have a lot of respect for Scott Drew and Baylor.

“Baylor’s really, really good. They’re one of the better teams in the country; a top-ten team in the country. When you talk about perimeter scoring, they’ve added another big that was injured earlier. I mean, they’re as good of a team that you’re going to play in the country.”
