Rodney Terry labels Kadin Shedrick an 'unheralded hero' for Texas
The start of SEC play has had its highs and lows for the Texas Longhorns. Amid all of that, head coach Rodney Terry knows that his team has been relying on an unsung hero in Kadin Shedrick.
Following the Longhorns’ win over a talented Missouri team on Tuesday, Terry shared that he thinks of Shedrick as an unheralded hero.
“Kadin Shedrick has done that all year for us,” Rodney Terry said. “He’s been a really unheralded hero in a lot of our games in terms of, you look at the stat sheet there may not be a lot of things you put in the stat sheet to say, ‘Man, this guy had a great game, scoring all these points,’ or whatever. It’s all the little things in the game within the game that he has a difference with.”
Shedrick came to Texas as a transfer from Virginia. He spent four full seasons with the Cavaliers before transferring ahead of the 2023-24 season and is now in his second season with the Longhorns. That gives him a ton of experience that he’s able to lean on as a player.
More than anything, Terry is impressed with how smart a player Shedrick is and how that puts him and the team in a position to succeed.

“He’s a cerebral player on the floor. He knows the scouting report, he knows the personnel, he knows that the other team’s doing. We’re up at Oklahoma last week. He has a huge steal at a critical junction of the game, late in the game, but he knew what the sideline play was. It was a scouting report play and he had a steal. That’s not going to show up in the stat sheet but it’s winning basketball, making winning plays. He’s done it all year for us.”
In 19 games this season, Shedrick has 19 starts for the Longhorns, averaging 25.8 minutes per game. For the season, he’s averaging 7.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 0.4 assists per game. He’s doing that while making 57.8 percent of his shots and 11.1 percent from three-point range.
Defensively, he’s averaging 0.7 steals and 1.7 blocks per game. In the win over Missouri, Shedrick finished with nine points and nine rebounds.
Terry now has Texas at 2-4 in SEC play and 13-6 overall. However, wins in two of their last three games should have the Longhorns on the right path moving forward for their next game on Saturday against the Texas A&M Aggies.
