Rodney Terry is making the case for Texas to be a one-seed for the 2023 NCAA Tournament.

The Longhorns captured the Big 12 Tournament title on Saturday, defeating Kansas by double-digits in a statement victory. Many believe the Jayhawks will receive a one-seed, but Terry thinks his team’s “body of work” is enough to get Texas the honor.

“I think our body of work and building a resume,” explained Terry. “Every time we have stepped on the court we have tried to respect every opponent that we played this season with the thought in mind that every game is a NCAA Tournament game. I thought our guys have had an incredible run this entire season.

“I think, again, our body of work, our strength of schedule, playing in the best league in the country, you know, I think we made a good case for what comes our way some Sunday.”

Nevertheless, Texas will be a miserable matchup for someone when it comes to the NCAA Tournament, regardless if they’re a one-seed or not. The Longhorns have their eyes on the prize, and Rodney Terry is steering the ship with confidence at the moment.

Seth Greenberg, Rece Davis make case for Texas as NCAA Tournament one-seed after Big 12 Championship win

After Texas won the Big 12 Tournament, ESPN analysts Seth Greenberg and Rece Davis discussed the seed they deserve in the NCAA Tournament. The Longhorns defeated Kansas in the title game by 20 points, opening the door to a conversation about them deserving a higher seed than the Jayhawks for March Madness.

On the latest update from Joe Lunardi shared by the ESPN postgame coverage, Lunardi still believes that Kansas is the number one overall seed in the NCAA Tournament — with Texas coming in as a two-seed.

“Joe Lunardi… despite Kansas being blown out by Texas he still has Kansas as the number one overall seed. But I think there’s some merit and there’s a case to be made that Texas can get on that one-line,” started Davis before asking Greenberg what he thought.

“I think Texas has played their way into the one-line,” answered Greenberg. “It all depends on what happens with Purdue tomorrow night. Purdue wins, I think they stay a number two.”

The conversation between Greenberg and Davis gives an inside look at the ongoing debate with decision makers for the actual Big Dance seeding. While one individual game may not make or break any team at the very top, the separation between Texas and the predicted one-seeds by Lunardi is far less than it was coming in to the Big 12 Tournament.

Despite making themselves a factor in the conversation, Greenberg wasn’t convinced fully that Texas would be a one-seed when the bracket is released — with Purdue’s own performance earning them consideration to this point as well. Purdue will take on Penn State in the Big Ten Championship Game tomorrow, after Ohio State and Indiana were eliminated in the semifinal round.
