The start of the 2023-2024 college basketball season is approaching. The Texas Longhorns are looking to make another deep run into the postseason under head coach Rodney Terry. But first, Texas must check a few boxes in the health department.

Likely key contributors this season, senior forwards Dylan Disu and Kadin Shedrick, have been limited in practice thus far. On Tuesday, Terry provided an update on how things are progressing for his injured players.

Kadin Shedrick has made a lot of progress over the last four weeks. He is in contact in the half court, not as much in the full court right now. And he seems to be responding really well to that right now,” Terry said during Tuesday’s press conference.

From the Longhorns headman’s perspective, things are going well for Shedrick during his rehab. So when does he see Shedrick returning to action, and how is this other senior forward, Disu, progressing with his rehab?

“I still don’t have a timetable for when he’s going to be cleared; hopefully, sooner than later. I know he’s worked really hard to put himself back in a pretty good position to have an opportunity a little earlier in the season than Disu. So we’ll kind of keep it open-ended that way. But he’s made a lot of strides; a lot of positive things are happening for him right now.”

Kansas, first-place finishers in 17 of the last 19 seasons, slots in at No. 1 with 12 first-place votes. Big 12 newcomer Houston finished in second with two-first place votes.

After the Jayhawks, the teams projected to finish second through fifth are from the state of Texas.

Including the Cougars, three current Big 12 teams have made the Final Four over the past three tournaments. That includes Baylor winning the title in 2021 and the Jayhawks winning the title in 2022.

Outside of Houston, the three other newcomers to the conference are projected to finish in the bottom four in league play.
