Rodney Terry raves about impact of Chendall Weaver
Texas made a move two weeks back to try to spark something, inserting guard Chendall Weaver into the starting lineup in a game against TCU.
It worked, and he has started every game since.
Weaver is coming off one of his best games of the season in a 94-58 win over West Virginia. He scored 13 points, just two off his season high, while also recording six rebounds and four assists.
Coach Rodney Terry praised him after the game.
“You know what, he’s just one of those guys again that’s going to make winning plays,” Terry said. “I think his effort and his want-to is always in the right place in terms of wanting to try to please you, doing the right things and playing hard. He’s not always perfect. And he’s coachable, that’s all you can ask.”
Chendall Weaver isn’t posting monster numbers. Though his recent performances have brought his averages up, he’s still only averaging 5.0 points and 2.8 rebounds per game this season.
But he has the potential to swing games on a dime thanks to some of the eye-popping things he can do.

“I mean he’s going to make some spectacular plays for you, like, ‘Wow,'” Terry said. “He’s going to make wow plays on offense, he’s going to make wow plays on defense. But the thing you can live with him every night, he’s one of those every day guys. He’s going to show up and bring what he brings every single day. I’m not surprised by plays that he makes.”
If Chendall Weaver wants to keep the success rolling, doing so on Saturday against No. 3 Houston would be a key way to do it.
Texas can use all the wins it can get at this point, and that one would be a huge resume-booster coming down the stretch as teams jockey for NCAA Tournament positioning.
Weaver and company will be in action at 1 p.m. ET, with a broadcast on CBS.
