Rodney Terry reveals how he keeps players fresh
As Texas enters the final stretch of the regular season, Rodney Terry is doing his best to keep his team fresh. The Longhorns have had a remarkable season, and Terry knows that they need to keep the energy up to accomplish their goals.
“I think you have to keep the guys excited about still competing this time of year,” Terry said during a press conference Monday. “We break the season down in all kinds of different months. February, this month, for us was separation month. We just come out of December what we had to try to get better with the details. Then January you have to grind once you started conference play. We’re about to embark right now quickly on March here. March is gonna be about finishing and advance. You have to finish halves, you have to finish your cuts, you have to finish possessions. The teams that embrace that, they get a chance to advance deep into March.”
Texas wraps up its regular season with two key games against TCU and Kansas this week. Then it will start postseason play with the Big 12 Tournament and then the NCAA Tournament.
The Longhorns are 22-7 on the season and 11-5 in the Big 12, good for second-best in argubaly the nation’s best conference. They are also ranked in the top-10 in the country.

“We’re at that juncture of the season right now and we’ve try to play March basketball for the last three weeks to where every possession matters,” Terry said. “You have to play with urgency on both ends of the floor. I said to our guys today, we’re at a point right now here guys, we’re not going to have a whole lot of redos where you have a chance to come back and try to get better and fix areas where you have to get better. This time of year as you embark on March, you’re in a one game situation. You have 40 minutes right in front of you and you have to take care of what you have to take care of in front of you to continue to play.”
Rodney Terry says Texas has been playing at a high level
Texas is coming off a tough loss to Baylor in its last game from this past weekend, but Terry is still very impressed with the way his team is playing.
“I mean we’ve played March basketball for the last two weeks. Every game in the Big 12? Last I checked, every game has been a real game. We haven’t had an opponent where we can say we don’t have to bring our A game,” Terry said. “(TCU) is the next game on our schedule. It’s a big 40 minutes for us but every game in the Big 12 has been a big 40 minutes. So we’re gonna approach it the same way have all season long. We know we have an 80-minute Big 12 conference race left.”
