Rodney Terry reveals key positions Texas needs to fill
Rodney Terry‘s Texas team is going to look a lot different next season than it did this year. The new full-time head coach is losing some of the team’s most productive players to graduation.
Forward Timmy Allen, guard Marcus Carr and guard Sir’Jabari Rice have all used up all their eligibility as college basketball players. They were the team’s three leading scorers, leaving the Longhorns with just Tyrese Hunter as the lone returning double-digit scorer.
Carr was also an all-conference first team player and Rice was the Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year.
Dylan Disu‘s return is also unknown.
Terry recently appeared on the College Hoops Today podcast with Jon Rothstein to discuss what he needs to add to his roster to help fill in some of the holes.
“We’re losing tremendous experience on the perimeter,” Rodney Terry said of his Texas team. “When you talk about a cat like Marcus Carr and you have Timmy Allen and Sir’Jabari Rice. Those are three guys that all got a chance to play in postseason play and had incredible numbers that they put up over the course of their careers. When they all goes out the door you have to try to retool that and try to attract some guys that also have experience that could also come in and fill that void in terms of experience.”
The Longhorns are also losing former five-star point guard recruit Arterio Morris and four-star guard Rowan Brumbaugh to the transfer portal. Brumbaugh has already committed to Georgetown.

Rodney Terry and Texas have a top recruiting class
But Texas does have two elite five-star recruits in forward Ron Holland and guard AJ Johnson.
Holland is the No. 7 recruit while Johnson is the No. 16 prospect in the 2023 On3 Industry Ranking. The On3 Industry is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four major recruiting media services. The On3 Industry Ranking is the most advanced, complete and unbiased rating and ranking measurement in the industry.
A McDonalds All-American forward out of Texas, Holland was a major signing for Rodney Terry and the Longhorns. He is projected to be a top draft pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
“Holland could end up the best pro prospect in the class,” an NBA scout told On3’s Jamie Shaw during the week of the McDonald’s All-American Game in Houston. “He’s always been a high-motor guy, but his game and his skill set are coming along. He’s shooting it a little now, plus the defense.”
