Rodney Terry shares what he is most proud of in his Texas tenure

The Texas Longhorns got knocked out of the NCAA Tournament in the First Four after making it into the field as a bubble team. Now, there are growing concerns about the future for head coach Rodney Terry.
After the game, Terry addressed those rumors surrounding his job security. He also made it clear how proud he is of his tenure at Texas, going back to his time as an assistant coach there. It’s that history that helps him to consider himself a Longhorn.
“I’ve been at Texas 13 years, man,” Rodney Terry said. “There’s not a year I haven’t made the NCAA Tournament or been part of the NCAA Tournament. So, I have a lot of pride in terms of being a Longhorn. I love being at Texas. I don’t think anyone has been a part of Texas basketball that’s been more successful than myself. I’ve been a part of the top five seasons in this program’s history. I give our guys a lot of credit for being in the position to be here tonight.”
Terry, a Texas native, played his own college basketball at Division II St. Edward’s in Austin. He later added stops at multiple high schools before making the jump to college and eventually becoming an assistant at Texas in 2002. That was under Rick Barnes and helped him land his first head coaching job. In 2021, he returned as an assistant again, later becoming interim head coach and full-time head coach.

At 62-37 overall and 27-27 in conference play between two Big 12 and one SEC season, Terry has found some success in three seasons as the Texas head coach. That includes making an Elite Eight. It’s success that Terry would like the chance to replicate moving forward but he also knows that the decision may not be his own.
“At the end of the day, it’s in God’s hands. You know what I mean? At the end of the day, I live my life,” Terry said. “I’m a believer, and if God has plans for me to be here, then I’ll be here. If He has plans for me to be somewhere else, He’s the one with the master plan at all times. That’s what I live my life by. I don’t live my life by man. I live my life by God. I’ve got strong faith.”
As of now, there have been conflicting reports about the future of Terry at Texas. The first was that the Longhorns were likely to move on from Terry. However, that has been pushed back on, with further reports that nothing is close to imminent in his future at Texas.
