St John’s Red Storm shooting guard Simeon Wilcher has signed with the Texas Longhorns and head coach Sean Miller, On3 has learned. He spent two seasons playing for St. John’s.

Coming out of high school, Simeon Wilcher was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2023, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the 132nd-ranked player overall and the 35th-ranked shooting guard in that recruiting cycle after playing his high school basketball at Roselle Catholic in New Jersey.

Wilcher has been a key player for the Red Storm during his time with that program. During those two seasons, he played in 64 games, starting 27 for St. John’s. That includes starting in 25 and averaging 25.4 minutes per game for the 2024-25 season.

Last year, Wilcher averaged 8.0 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. He did that while shooting 40.7 percent from the field, 29.7 percent from three-point range, and 73.7 percent from the free-throw line. Defensively, he had 1.1 steals and 0.4 blocks per game.

While at St. John’s Simeon Wilcher player for legendary head coach Rick Pitino, going 51-18 over two seasons there. That included making the NCAA Tournament in the 2024-25 season after winning the Big East in both the regular season and conference tournament. The Red Storm would go to the Round of 32 last season.

While there, new Texas head coach Sean Miller had several chances to compete against Simeon Wilcher. He was previously the head coach at Xavier. There, in two seasons, St. John’s went 3-1 against Xavier. So, there is plenty of familiarity between player and coach, even if they haven’t been at the same program as one another before.

Sean Miller is taking over the Texas program from Rodney Terry after a frustrating transition into the SEC. Terry led the Longhorns to a 19-16 record overall and a 6-12 conference record last season, good for a tie for 13th in the SEC standings. Texas made the NCAA Tournament, losing in a First Four game, which also became Terry’s final game with the program.

Miller, meanwhile, 22-12 record overall and a 13-7 record in Big East play. They’d also make the NCAA Tournament. That ended his second stint with Xavier when he left to take over at Texas. He also previously spent 12 seasons at Arizona.
