Star Texas transfer to miss game against Gonzaga
One of Texas‘ top transfers will have to wait another game to make his first court appearance for the Longhorns.
Dylan Disu, who had his season cut short by knee surgery last year, will not see the court tonight against Gonzaga, but he could be back in the next couple of weeks.
“Could be the Longhorns best frontcourt player, also team’s top rim protector,” Jeff Goodman said in his tweet updating on Disu’s status.
In two seasons at Vanderbilt, Disu played in 49 games with 48 starts. Last season, Disu led the SEC with 9.2 rebounds per game.
He nearly doubled his point total from his freshman to sophomore year, posting 7.4 and 15 points, respectively. Disu played 27 minutes a game as a freshman and almost 32 minutes a game as a sophomore.
Beard hoped Disu would be ready to go for the start of the season, but that plan did not materialize.
“Texas’ Dylan Disu (knee) has yet to participate in a regular 5-on-5 practice, but still could be ready for the first week of the season, per Chris Beard,” CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein said a few weeks ago.
Originally from the state of Texas, Dylan Disu was a three-star recruit in the 2019 recruiting class.

Texas is 1-0 after opening their 2021-2022 campaign with a 92-48 win over Houston Baptist on Tuesday. Six Texas players scored in double digits, and guard Courtney Ramey led the charge with 14 points. He went 4-5 from 3-point range.
The Longhorns are a 7-point underdog at Gonzaga. The Bulldogs are also 1-0 after topping Dixie State 97-63 on Tuesday.
Texas awash in transfers
Disu is one of nine transfers new head coach Chris Beard picked up in the offseason. He landed five of the top-25 available players according to Goodman, a basketball analyst at Stadium. Former Pitt and Minnesota guard Marcus Carr and former UMass center Tre Mitchell, Goodman’s top-two transfers, are now in Austin. They averaged 19.4 and 18.8 points per game last year, respectively.
Other transfers include former Kentucky guard Devin Askew, former Utah forward Timmy Allen and Creighton power forward Christian Bishop.
Last season’s leading scorer, Andrew Jones, returned to Austin after averaging 14.6 points per game last year. He had 11 points in Texas’ first win.
