Star Texas wide receiver exits game with injury
A bad night for the Longhorns just got worse.
Star Texas freshman wide receiver Xavier Worthy limped off the field on his own power late in the first half after running a deep route.
Worthy had six receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown before he left. It was his ninth touchdown of the season, which broke the freshman record for the Longhorns. The record was held by Texas legend Roy Williams.
Texas is trailing Kansas 35-14 at halftime after entering tonight as a 31-point favorite. Kansas has not won a conference game on the road in 12 years, a 2008 win over Iowa State in Ames.
Texas has played both Casey Thompson and Hudson Card at quarterback tonight. Thompson is 9-for-12 with 106 yards and a touchdown. Card is 3-for-5 with 52 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
Texas is looking to snap a four-game losing streak after falling to three ranked teams and a pesky Iowa State team in Ames.

Worthy making noise in rookie year
Worthy has been a threat in the passing game since the moment he took the field.
The Fresno, Calif. native entered today’s game leading all FBS freshmen with 679 receiving yards and 75.4 receiving yards per game. Additionally, his 19.4 yards per catch are 19th-best nationally and tops among Power Five freshmen. The 6-foot-1, 160-pound wideout is averaging 34.4 yards per touchdown reception. Clearly a huge big-play threat, Worthy has a reception of at least 60 yards in three games this year.
He was named to the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award watch list, the Maxwell Football Club announced this Tuesday.
Worthy was ranked the No. 18 player in the 2021 class according to On3. As a junior in high school, Worthy hauled in 55 catches for 992 yards and 16 touchdowns. He helped lead Central East High School to its first-ever CIF Division 1-AA state championship after a 15-0 season in 2019.
He originally committed to Michigan in April of this year, but he ultimately switched his commitment to Texas nine days later.
On3’s Wade Peery contributed to this report.
