Texas’ offense came up short in their Top-20 matchup with TCU on Saturday. The Longhorns only put up 10 points on the Horned Frogs. A big part of that was because of their absent running game. Steve Sarkisian addressed their issues rushing postgame and said it may have had to do with his gameplan.

Overall, he thought it was difficult to get anything going in that aspect of their offense and that everyone involved in the offense never got comfortable with it during the game.

“It was tough. We just couldn’t move the line of scrimmage, there weren’t a lot of running lanes. I’ve got to look at some of the runner’s reads. Maybe there were some creases there that we weren’t able to hit,’ said Sarkisian. “But, in the end, that’s why I talk about the game plan. Was the plan good enough for those guys to go execute that? But definitely just didn’t generate really anything in the run game that felt comfortable for me as the play caller or I think for the players on the field to execute.”

Bijan Robinson is one of the best players in the country, but the Horned Frogs neutralized him this weekend. He only rushed 12 times for a total of 29 yards. When you combine that production with the numbers from Roschon Johnson too, Texas totaled just 43 yards on 17 attempts.

With Quinn Ewers under some bright lights, Texas’ offense could have used the run game to balance out their offense. It never came, though, and is a big reason why the Longhorn offense never found the endzone in the primetime Big 12 matchup. TCU is owed some credit for not letting Robinson and the Longhorns run wild but, according to Sarkisian, it might be as much on him and his gameplan as anything else.
