Steve Sarkisian breaks down the growth he's seen from Texas over recent weeks
Texas football bounced back with a huge win on the road against Kansas State after falling to Oklahoma State in Stillwater their last time out. Obviously, having their bye week after the OSU loss helped the Longhorns get back on track, and head coach Steve Sarkisian was thrilled with the attitude adjustment from that game to the Kansas State one.
“Well I think the thing that I’m seeing is confidence, you know,” Sark shared at his press conference after the K-State win. “We’ve been preaching confidence and we’ve got to be confident in our ability. We’ve got good players, we’ve got good schemes, we’ve got good coaches. Let’s be confident in what we’re doing and have belief in it. And we put ourselves in scenarios like that a lot in practice to get ourselves prepared for those moments.”
Over the the last couple weeks of practice, Texas has gone back to plays and situations in previous games this season to replay and re-practice them so that they’re better prepared in moments of high pressure the next time around.
For Coach Steve Sarkisian, it’s all about establishing confidence in the team. Confidence in how they read and execute plays, which all starts in practice. He continued:

“We did it on Wednesday, as a matter of fact, that exact same scenario and the defense got a sack fumble against the offense. So we try to create those scenarios to get them comfortable in those scenarios when they come up and be confident that they can make their plays. And I think our team has a lot of confidence in their ability to to go play with anybody. That’s a really good football team we beat on the road. And so, to come out on top and in the fashion that we did, hopefully we gain more confidence from this one moving forward.”
The Longhorns got back in the film room and back on the practice field to work out their issues after their latest loss. The result? A ranked road win to catapult Texas back into the Big 12 title game hunt.
