Steve Sarkisian excited by skill position players on offense
Steve Sarkisian has a ton of talent littered throughout the Texas Longhorns offense, and he can’t wait utilize it.
It’s no secret Sarkisian’s team features a bevy of talented skill position players, and it’s on the coach to figure out how to get the most out of them. Speaking with the media, the Texas leader explained how giddy he is to see them on the field, and how he plans to make the best game-plan for them all.
“Yeah, it does,” Sarkisian responded, asked if figuring out where all his talented skill players fit on offense excites him. “The guy we haven’t mentioned, who looks great, is Isaiah Neyor too. Transfer from Wyoming, we all had high hopes and aspirations for. Got injured last year. Has done a phenomenal job with his rehab. He looks fantastic. You know, we held him out. We just want to make sure he gets fully healthy. He looks tremendous as well.
“Yeah, you’re like the kid who gets a bunch of new toys on Christmas, and then you still have those other toys that you love playing with. So now our job is to make sure that we craft an offense that allows all of those guys to play to their potential, and to do the things that they do really well, and hopefully make things difficult on our opponents. We should be fresh, we should be fast, and now making sure that we’re distributing the ball in a way that at any given moment, one of these guys can really hurt you, from an offensive perspective.”
It sounds like a pretty fantastic position for Sarkisian and the Longhorns offense. They’re expected to be among the Big 12’s best in 2023, and their prowess can help lead them there.

Additionally, Sarkisian has another card in his hand that he’s happy to have, and that’s the strength of Texas’ connectivity, as the Longhorns coach believes that’ll also help propel them this season.
“We’re talented,” Sarkisian said. “I think that we’re together. And that’s, to me, more important than talent. I think that the connectivity on this team, the culture that these guys have created with each other, they have a lot of fun with one another. The first time today, I came into the team meeting, and they were all singing a song together. Two years ago, you could have heard a church mouse in here when I walked into a team room. Now they’re actually having a lot of fun being a team with one another and appreciating the work that each of them are doing and that comes from love.
“And the fact that that’s where we’re at as a team, that’s going to help us overcome the adversity we’re going to get faced with in the fall. But I definitely think we’re talented enough. Now we just got to keep putting in the work and make sure we understand the whys of the things that we’re doing and put ourselves in a position where we’re ready to go compete and compete at a high level with a full allotment of 85 scholarships.”
As you can see, good times are ahead of Steve Sarkisian and Texas in 2023. They’ll still have their doubters, but this could be the season they’re finally proved wrong.
