Steve Sarkisian explains how he prepared Quinn Ewers for his return vs. Oklahoma
Texas gets quarterback Quinn Ewers back at the perfect time. Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian established earlier in the day that Ewers would officially be the starting quarterback for their game vs. rival Oklahoma in Norman today after missing the last three games with an injury he suffered during the Week 2 Alabama loss.
Later in the morning, Sarkisian hopped on ESPN with the College GameDay crew, where he was asked how he’s bene preparing Ewers for his return after several missed games. Here was Sark’s response:
“Well the biggest thing I tried to do with Quinn was say — hey, trust the guys around you, trust the play calls, trust what we’re doing to try to get you into rhythm. He doesn’t need to be a hero today. Just needs to operate the offense and execute.”
The head coach isn’t putting too much pressure on his QB1 after a lengthy injury absence. The Sooners may be down this year, but intensity is always high in the Red River Rivalry. The goal for Ewers will be to stay calm and collected in his return, which is also his Big 12 debut.
Sarkisian reveals Quinn Ewers will start for Texas against Oklahoma

“BREAKING: Steve Sarkisian tells @SpanningTheLoeb that Quinn Ewers will start today against Oklahoma.”
Huge news for the Longhorns this morning just hours before they kickoff vs. Oklahoma in Norman. Ewers was originally injured during the Week 2 game vs. Alabama. He missed the rest of that game plus the next three, but is making his return in Week 6.
In less than two full games played, the redshirt freshman QB had impressed, amassing 360 passing yards on just 36 total attempts. And he even had the Longhorns in the lead before leaving the Alabama game. Massive news for the boys in burnt orange to get him back on the field.
