Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian made a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show as he enters his second season as the head man for the Longhorns. Texas has a tall task ahead of them in week two when host face preseason No. 1 and National Championship favorites Alabama, and Eisen asked Sarkisian about they’re keeping their focus on their week one opponent Louisiana-Monroe with the Crimson Tide looming around the corner.

“Well I think the one thing for us, we have 35 new scholarship players out of our 85 on our roster, so we’ve got a lot of new faces whether they’re high school kids, whether they’re transfers. So we’ve got to get everybody acclimated to who we are and how we go about our business, I think at the end of the day we’ve got to focus on what we need to do,” Sarkisian said.

Sarkisian is keeping the focus more on his team versus who they are playing in the future, as they keep their attention on their week one opponent and starting off the season the best they can.

“We recognize hey, we’re trying to figure out Louisiana-Monroe who’s got new coordinators on both sides of the ball, we’re trying to to get ourselves right, we recognize, we know who’s coming week two. But if we don’t put our best foot forward in week one, if we don’t start getting ourselves in a position to play at a really high level, regardless of the opponent, we’re all going to feel upset about it. So we got to focus on what we need to do and the old adage you take them one game at a time for us I think it really is that,” Sarkisian said.

The Longhorns week one matchup against a group of five program may be just what they need, as they continue acclimate and adjust to their new look roster.

“We’re breaking in a new quarterback, we’ve got a lot of new faces, we got some young players up front so we’ve gotta make sure that we’re getting our ducks aligned to have a successful season. And then the opponents come, then you got to prepare for the opponent,” Sarkisian said.

Sarkisian named freshman Quinn Ewers the the starting quarterback late last week, as he’ll make his first career college start versus Louisiana-Monroe in week one. Hopefully for the Longhorns, they can break in him and the rest of their newer and younger talent week one to prepare themselves for their week two matchup versus one of the most dominant forces in all of college football.
